My Findings After Analysing Opening Scenes

What I have noticed by looking at opening scenes is that there are certain conventions which are universal, and I will definitely include these in my opening scene.

Production Company Idents

Titles or Title Cards - including film name, production companies, actors and crew

Indication of the genre of the film

There are other conventions which come up occasionally, depending on the genre of the film.

Introducing Characters

Focusing on Setting

Creating Enigma/Mystery

I am thinking of making the opening sequence from a thriller film so I will definitely want to create enigma, as this is common in the genre, especially at the start of the film. I will also consider introducing one or more characters and possibly draw the audience's attention to the setting.
