Rough Outline For My Opening Scene

The three most important things in my opening sequence are the creation of enigma, the introduction of a key location and the introduction of my main character.

• In terms of setting I plan to keep it simple - no items to give any luxuries associated with home
• No bed - a blanket on the floor to show that the protagonist is going to be kept imprisoned in an uncomfortable place
• No furniture
• An old fashioned rotary phone on a side unit. The phone is going to be a key focus ringing throughout
• The protagonist, who is abducted is asleep on the floor. We see her wake up in pain as if she has been knocked out or drugged. When she awakes she can hear the phone ringing. It is clear she does not know where she is or how she got there
• As the phone continues to ring relentlessly she makes her way towards it finally answering the phone
• We hear a male voice at the end of the line telling her she will not be released until she gives up the location of the device she is alleged to have taken
