Opening Scenes Creating Enigma/Mystery - 'Inception'

'Inception'

One of the purposes of opening sequences is to create enigma or mystery to the audience, encouraging them to continue watching to get answers to questions they're posed.

The first scene I am looking at is from 'Inception.

The opening scene for 'Inception starts of with the main character in the sea, unconscious. He is looking at some children playing in the sand, until a man comes up to him and brings him to another man who is presented as quite powerful.

This makes the audience quite confused and wonder who these people are and how did the main character end up washed up on the beach. It starts of mysteriously, with close ups rather than establishing shots, and with no attempt at explaining through exposition, so the audience question what is happening and want to keep on watching to get answers.
